We knew it would show us more about the dwarf planet, but it still amazing to see the things we are learning about Pluto from the New Horizons satellite. This image was take 7 hours after closest encounter with the camera aimed at Pluto backlit by the sun. In hi-res images, it shows 2 distinct layers of atmosphere on the dwarf planet. order accutane uk

When I was in school I never heard of this scientist. It wasn’t until well into my teaching career I learned of her work. I am glad I could share it with my current students. As you read it, notice how a total solar eclipse played into her life. http://bit.ly/1HP9VOu

This is not true. Not a chance. This has never been true. It is based on the opposition of Mars that happened August 27, 2003. Some oppositions of Mars are better (closer) than others. The distance between Mars and Earth at oppositions differs because the Earth and Mars orbit the Sun in slight ovals or ellipses. The 2003 was the closest opposition to the Earth for a long time and Mars will not be that close again until 2287. In 2003 someone incorrectly read of the size of Mars (which was 30″, that is arc seconds) as 30′ (arc minutes. 60 times bigger, the size of the moon.) Every year since then someone re-posts this because the original gave the month (August) but not the year. This is BOGUS!
Last month we had the rare conjunction of Jupiter and Venus 20′ apart. Venus and Jupiter are now 5 degrees apart. On July 17th a half hour or more after sunset the crescent moon will be below them and on the 18th it will be very close to Venus. Together with the star Regulus there will be 4 objects 1st magnitude or brighter in a 6 degree field. This will be a very pretty sight. If you have binoculars, get them out.
From June 28 though July 4, Venus and Jupiter will appear very close together in the western sky shortly after sunset. If it is clear, they will hard to miss. June 30 is the date of their closest approach. This is not to be missed. Get out and look up.
From time to time I will post non-eclipse astronomy events to help keep you up to date on the heavens.

Starting tonight, 30 minutes after sunset, look west. Bright Venus will be easy to see at magnitude -4 or more. To the upper left, less than two fists away (fist held at arms length) is Jupiter, usually seen as bright at mag. -2, but suffering in comparison to Venus. This is a 3 week project. Every clear night make a mental note of how far apart these two planets are. They will get closer until June 28 when they will be less than half a degree apart. They will not appear this close together for several decades. They are not actually close. Jupiter is about 9 times further away. After June 28 they will separate, with Venus then higher than Jupiter.
On the evenings of June 19, 20, and 21, the moon makes an appearance that will be worth trying to photograph. If you do, post it and let me know.
KEEP LOOKING UP!
