Places in the path of the eclipse that I found interesting and potentially good for viewing the eclipse.

Black Rock Mountain State Park
Blue Ridge
Brasstown Bald
Helen
Hiawassee
Tallulah Gorge State Park

Blue Ridge

Eclipse totality lasts 1 minute at the marina at Lake Blue Ridge. The setting is very pretty but the highlight may be the fleet of rental pontoon boats they have. I think that viewing the eclipse from the deck of a pontoon boat out on the water would be very memorable. Sorry, but it was cloudy the day we were there.

The town of Blue Ridge also worth a look. There is a train that takes a four hour trip. We didn’t go but the station and train looked well maintained.

Brasstown Bald is the highest mountain in Georgia and is in the path of the eclipse. Totality there is 2 minutes 13 seconds. Seeing the eclipse from the top of a mountain would be amazing.DSCN8360 (Medium) DSCN8361 (Medium) DSCN8362 (Medium) DSCN8363 (Medium)

Hiawassee is home to the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds located on Lake Chatuge. It has a lot of campsites and looked clean and in good repair. It is in the path of totality with a during of 2 minutes 28 seconds.

Helen
The town of Helen, GA is as picturesque a place as any. It is the path of the eclipse and duration is 1 minute 40 seconds.

Black Rock Mountain State Park

We have camped here and it is pretty heavily wooded, so viewing the eclipse would likely require traveling down to the town of Mountain City or Clayton. But it is a very pretty place to camp. Notice: there is a healthy population of black bear in the area, so keep food packed up when not eating. Eclipse duration in Clayton is 2 minutes 34 seconds.

Tallulah Gorge State Park is in the path of totality with a duration of 2 minutes and 22 seconds. DSCN4601 (Medium) DSCN4602 (Medium) DSCN4605 (Medium)

One of the towers used to support the high wire that Karl Wallenda used to walk across the gorge in 1970. On the left side of the picture you can see the foundation it sat on.

Please comment if you know of other places in far north east Georgia that would be good for viewing the eclipse.
